Installation

  1. Download the .zip archive of OkTopo Remesher.
  2. Open Blender.
  3. Go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons.
  4. Click Install... and select the downloaded .zip.
  5. Activate OkTopo Remesher by checking the box in the add-ons list.

✅ Done! You will now find OkTopo Remesher in the Sidebar (press N) under the OkTopo Remesher tab.

Using OkTopo Remesher

OkTopo Remesher allows you to quickly create an optimized head mesh with clean facial topology in just a few steps.

To ensure correct operation, it is crucial to follow the steps in the correct order:

  1. Select the Target Mesh — choose the high-poly model you want to retopologize.
  2. Add Face Markers — place the required markers to guide topology generation.
  3. Run OkTopo Retopology — generate the clean mesh based on your markers.
  4. Adjust the Mesh Using Controllers — fine-tune the mesh if needed.
  5. Finalize the Mesh — clean up all helpers and complete the process.

Following this sequence guarantees optimal results and avoids errors during generation.


Preparation

Before you begin, make sure you have a high-poly 3D head model you want to work with.

The selected object will appear at the top of the OkTopo panel in the Target mesh field.


2. Placing Markers (Add Face Markers)

At this stage, you will mark key reference points on the face. This guides OkTopo Remesher in adapting the topology.

<aside> 🔥 Critical:

It is absolutely crucial to follow the correct marker placement order when using OkTopo Remesher.

Incorrect marker sequence can break the topology generation process, causing serious errors in the final mesh.

<aside> ⚠️ Important:

When instructions mention "left" or "right," they always refer to the model’s own left and right sides, not the viewer’s perspective.

In other words:

Imagine standing inside the model’s head — left and right are from the model’s point of view, not yours.

Symmetrical Faces (Default)

Before starting:

Then press Add Face Markers and place the following 4 markers:

  1. Tip of the nose
  2. Left eye
  3. Left corner of the mouth
  4. Left ear

Correct Symmetrical Marker Placement Sequence

Follow this pattern precisely to ensure successful retopology:

The right-side markers (eye, mouth, ear) will be generated automatically via symmetry.
